School Board Rallies Behind MNPS Strategic Plan, Narrows Options on School Calendar

At the third full board meeting in so many weeks, Metro Nashville school board members tackled the district strategic plan that spans from now through 2018. One of the highlights of the plan is ensuring 71 percent of students are at least on grade level on state tests by 2018, and the district be the highest performing urban school district in the nation. Board members support the plan as a strategy they can get behind, although some point out the need to get parents more involved and focus on at-risk kids. The board then went on to tackle the ever-controversial school calendar, apparently leaning toward a compromise plan were kids would start school a tad later in August and reduce the intersession time.

Check out the full rundown after the jump.
