Wine, Women and Song feat. Gretchen Peters, Suzy Bogguss & Matraca Berg

When: Wed., Aug. 29, 7 p.m. 2012

Gretchen Peters, Suzy Bogguss and Matraca Berg have gotten a very warm reception each time they’ve taken their conversational, in-the-round-style show Wine, Women and Song to the U.K. They haven’t been able to do much trio work this year, since all three have been tied up completing or promoting new projects. But if ever there was a local occasion that called for their refined folk-country combo of singer-songwriter intelligence and soul-searching, a benefit for Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee is it. On any given night, there’s a show somewhere around town aimed at raising a few bucks for a good cause, be it clean drinking water in Africa or the ballooning medical bills of the musician next door. In a state showing as many signs of regression as ours these days, Planned Parenthood is a much harder sell, but it’s an extremely important one for the sake of women’s reproductive health. When that’s taken care of, it’ll really be time to raise a glass of cabernet sauvignon. Look for an interview with Peters on the Scene’s Cream blog, where she’ll recap the story of how she came to donate money to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin’s name, and other matters of music importance.
