Vienna Waits at Lipstick Loune

Actor/singer/keyboardist Jeffrey Williams (Bat Boy, Souvenir, etc.) first performed this tribute to the music of Billy Joel in summer 2008 at 3rd & Lindsley. This is a slightly less plugged-in re-mounting, but Williams still has backup singers and their throw-in instrumental contris to support his impassioned piano/vocal versions of “Vienna,” “Half a Mile Away,” “While the Night Is Still Young,” “The Stranger,” “Uptown Girl,” “Shameless,” “Captain Jack” and other notables from the Joel catalog. Vienna Waits, however, is more a collection of theatrical moments than it is a straight-ahead concert, as Williams balances the music with self-penned seriocomic monologues that trace an angsty teen’s journey into adulthood.
