When: Nov. 23-24 2012
Once upon a time, a king had seven children, whom he hid away in a castle in the woods. After his new wife found them, she turned the six sons into swans. The sole daughter then spent six years finding a way to save them while saving herself from her own mother-in-law, who had accused her of eating her three children. Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ The Six Swans, Molly Brooks’ Sweaters for Swans is one of more than a dozen handmade books in the stellar new show Works on Paper at LeQuire Gallery. The Thanksgiving-weekend-only exhibit also features books made by Hatch Show Print’s Jim Sherraden, author Madison Smartt Bell, gallery owner Alan LeQuire, Richard Schweid, Jane Kent, Tom Leech, Susan Hulme and Frank Hamrick. Sherraden will also exhibit 30-plus works on paper, including some rare monoprints never seen before and Cuban-inspired wooodcuts.
