Valentines for Veterans

When: Sat., Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m. 2014

If anybody deserves some music and fun to lighten their load, it’s a family who has lost a loved one in combat. For them, the Country Music Hall of Fame hosts this “Salute to America’s Gold Star Families” concert featuring headliners Aaron Tippin and Darryl Worley, host Laura Lynn and appearances by Susan and Larry Wiseman and Lucas Hoge. Its stated purpose is “to increase awareness of what it means to be a Gold Star Family; show appreciation to America’s veterans, encourage citizens to volunteer at VA medical facilities and bring awareness to the high divorce rates of severely wounded soldiers returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.” Admission is free, but tickets are limited: Visit the online box office at countrymusichalloffame.org. (Note: The concert is one of a number of events today in Nashville benefiting the families of fallen soldiers, including a private event spotlighting the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which pays college scholarships for children of special ops soldiers who didn’t come home. More information about the charity is available at specialops.org.)
