UtopYA Convention

When: July 6-8 2012

UtopYA is the first convention for female, paranormal and fantasy young adult authors and their readers. Can I get a "right-the-fuck-on" for anything that includes "first" and "female" that's happening in Nashville? So what if I hate that terrible T-word vampire series that has the YA market stirring? That doesn't mean I haven't spent countless hours reading about fantastical dystopian futures, werewolves and real vampires. By "real," I mean Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla or Bram Stoker's Dracula, not the wimpy 'N Sync teeny-bopper versions of vampires that are looking for love rather than blood. I can't say I have anything against Harry Potter, but then again J.K. Rowling didn't completely ruin witches for me the way Stephenie Meyer did vampires. Regardless, this convention will touch everything from werewolves to bloodsuckers to wizards to gods and goddesses to anything fantasy-related. A game room, book trailer screenings, special signings and meet-and-greets with the authors are all included in the two-day event. Don't forget to bring your wands, claws and crystal balls — it's about to get real geeky up in here.
