his nostalgic musical revue has had an interesting history — first launched in Milwaukee in 1999, then receiving numerous mountings in larger and smaller American cities, including a 2008 Off-Broadway engagement that ran for well over a year. Creator Roger Bean resurrected a treasure trove of radio hits from the ’50s and ’60s and interpolated them into a loosely plotted tale of four high school girls singing at their prom and then reuniting 10 years later. The show exploits a familiar formula certainly, but the song selection allows tunes identified with lady artists such as Connie Francis (“Stupid Cupid”), The Chordettes (“Lollipop”), Lesley Gore (“It’s My Party”), Martha and the Vandellas (“Heat Wave”), The Shangri-Las (“Leader of the Pack”), Fontella Bass (“Rescue Me”) and many others to gain some welcome theatrical exposure. This area premiere, produced by Actors Point Theatre Company under the direction of Greg Wilson, features four talented ladies — JJ Rodgers, Catherine Birdsong, Marie Wise Hawkins and Chelsea Reynolds — whose varied careers span both coasts and numerous singing gigs, commercials, recordings and network TV appearances. Most recently, Rodgers received solid exposure in the role of Deb Butler on Nashville, while Birdsong is a Belmont grad.
