When: Sat., June 18, 9 p.m. 2011
When local postmodern music provocateur Pimp Daddy Supreme sends you giddy — GIDDY! — text messages first thing in the morning to tell you about a show he’s got in the works, you know you are in for something wonderful. In this case “wonderful” is meant in the most literal sense: When ECC hits the stage your head will be wondering, “What in the fuck is going on here?” — and loving every minute of it. Technically a “mash-up band,” ECC is more hip-hop-as-science experiment, mischievously exploding preconceived notions of genre and structure and style all with a great big middle finger in the air for all the intellectual property lawyers in the room. Which is the sort of thing that one expects from the artists who run around with experimental sampling pioneers Negativland. Pimp, Alio! And DJ Empirical open.
