Online at Scott Wilson on the Nashville Film Festival favorite The Way, Way Back, with Sam Rockwell, Steve Carell and Toni Collette, opening Friday at Green Hills; and Cory Woodroof on Red 2.

• At The Belcourt midnight Friday and Saturday: the live-action Looney Tunes of sequels, Joe Dante's peerless Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Saturday noon at the Hillsboro Village theater: the first local public screening of Chih-yen Yee's Taiwanese teen romantic drama Blue Gate Crossing, featuring a post-screening discussion with Wei Yang, assistant professor of Chinese language, literature and cinema at The University of the South. Sunday noon at the theater: a screening of Offside, the wonderful anti-authoritarian soccer comedy by jailed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, to be discussed post-film by Vanderbilt film studies director Jennifer Fay.

• Opening Friday at local theaters: Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine, directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line); Maggie Carey's racy teen comedy The To Do List, with Aubrey Plaza, Bill Hader and Nashville Emmy nominee Connie Britton.
