When: Feb. 6-22 2014
A Tony Award-winning musical revue that brought fame to Gregory Hines, Sophisticated Ladies honors the great composer, pianist, arranger and bandleader Duke Ellington. Keeton Theatre’s production brightens the new year by paying tribute to Ellington’s timeless catalog in a supper-club setting, complete with orchestra and dance floor. Duke’s most famous numbers — “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Satin Doll,” etc. — are enacted by a small, tight ensemble featuring Terry McLemore, Darci Wantiez and Keeton newcomers Christopher Rogers and Melissa Garner Campbell. The co-direction is by Ginger Newman and Jamie London, with Newman also handling the music. Friendly reminder: It’s dinner theater. For tickets, phone 883-8375 or visit thelarrykeetontheatre.org.
