Continuing its ambitious program to mount original and relevant theater pieces performed by young people ages 5-20, East Nashville’s Theater Bug presents this story dedicated to the importance of confronting the issues of bullying and loneliness. Written by company founder Cori Anne Laemmel and composer Eric Fritsch, the show features 12 original pop and rock songs whose influences span Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), Jason Robert Brown (Parade), Leonard Bernstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber, among others. This is a double-cast venture, with director Laemmel able to draw upon nearly 50 children to realize a script that strives to entertain as it enhances awareness. On board as musical director is Jennifer Landes-Vann Akers, and the band features talented players who have jammed with the likes of Taylor Swift, Bruce Hornsby, Counting Crows, Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant and Dave Matthews. Gabrielle Saliba is the choreographer.
