Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure

When: Sept. 13-Oct. 7 2012

Nashville Children’s Theatre again draws on the talents of the ubiquitous Steven Dietz, the versatile author who has reworked an original 1899 play by William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle. In it, Doyle’s great detective Sherlock Holmes — along with his friend, Dr. Watson — confronts a case of blackmail and faces a struggle to the death with his archnemesis Moriarty. In a departure from its usual programming, NCT has chosen to kick off its 81st season with a full-length two-hour production suitable for both families and the straight-ahead adult audience. The high-caliber storytelling and the automatic popularity of anything Holmesian promise a welcome change of pace here, and director Scot Copeland appears to have the players to deliver everything Holmes fans expect — mystery, danger, humor and even romance. The cast features David Compton as Holmes, Matthew Carlton as Watson, Bobby Wyckoff as Moriarty, plus Marin Miller, Samuel Whited, Jamie Farmer, Christopher Bosen and Steven Berryessa. Hard to believe, but the veteran Carlton, one of Music City’s most accomplished and popular actors, is making his NCT debut. Recommended age range is 10 and older.
