Opening

Scenes From The Grapes of Wrath

When: Fri., Aug. 6, 10 a.m. 2010

Circle Players will present the stage version of John Steinbeck’s classic novel Aug. 13–29 at the Larry Keeton Theatre at FiftyForward Donelson Station (aka the Senior Center for the Arts). But before that happens, the company will join forces with the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) to put the theme of the play into broader social context. Cast members will enact various scenes from the noted Pulitzer Prize-winning story about sharecroppers struggling to survive during the Dust Bowl, and the ensuing panel discussion with TIRRC reps connects Steinbeck’s characters to the lives of today’s migrant workers. TIRRC is a statewide organization that represents immigrants and refugees and strives to create an atmosphere in which both groups are recognized as positive contributors to society. The program is free and open to the public.
