Riotous Behaviors

When: Feb. 15-23 2013

Michael L. Walker’s Dream 7 Productions gets into the 2013 theatrical year with yet another of the producer/director’s original scripts about the African-American experience. Raised in South Central Los Angeles, Walker was a young boy in 1965 when the nearby Watts neighborhood exploded into a six-day riot that resulted in 34 deaths, thousands of injuries and arrests, and an estimated $40 million in property damage. It was the most severe episode of public unrest in the city’s history up to that time, and exposed serious racial and social tensions in L.A., exacerbated by segregation, real estate exploitation and police discrimination. But Walker’s script doesn’t merely concern itself with the facts. Instead, the Watts rebellion is the backdrop for his portrayal of people who lived through the turmoil, with profiles of their lives leading up to the mayhem. Walker’s cast of 10 includes Clark Harris, Demetra Blackman and Adarian Lherisson.
