Readymade Records Nite feat. Young Hines, Howling Brothers & Brendan Benson Listening Party

When: Thu., April 5, 7 p.m. 2012

The name and the story behind it are a great setup for showbiz: Baby is born into the already large Hines family of Griffin, Ga., goes nameless for a bit, is referred to as “Young Mr. Hines” in a nurse’s notes, and the name sticks. Young Hines was smart or savvy or good-humored enough— maybe all three — to parlay his memorable moniker into “Young Again” and “Forever Young,” the playfully larger-than-life songs that bookend his debut album on Brendan Benson’s newly launched Readymade Records, Give Me My Change. Something else about Hines’ background that sets him apart is his stint in a full-time Beatles cover band. You’ll know exactly which of the Fab Four he played as soon as you hear him singing from high in his head and attacking his fire-in-the-gut rock ’n’ roll numbers with an angsty, early R&B-schooled howl; it’s John. And those are the songs of Hines’ that’ll grab you from a room away.
