At long last, The Stone Fox is finally opening its doors — and it’s already making good on its promises to be more than “just” a music venue. How? By poaching the East Side’s most beloved night for just one evening. Poetry Sucks!, usually headquartered in a neon-lit corner of Dino’s, is flying the coop to help celebrate the Fox’s inauguration week with a truly eclectic lineup of artists — written-word and otherwise. Along with PS! alum Richard Houston, the night will feature music by avant improv artists Vox Arcana and films by local yokel Michael Carter. Which is all cool enough, but it’s Carolyn Hembree who’s got poem gnomes really amped-up. Hembree, a three-time Pushcart Prize nominee and University of New Orleans professor, reads from Skinny, her newly released debut volume of poetry launched from a fever dream. Poetry Sucks!, as always, is gritty, kinda drunk and totally free.
