Noises Off

When: Feb. 15-March 9 2013

Michael Frayn’s zany farce has been seen in Nashville in the not too distant past. Tennessee Repertory Theatre mounted a strong rendition in 2005 that featured a familiar cast of Music City first-stringers and a memorable performance by Marin Miller. In 2009, Circle Players presented its version, and there are personnel from that staging — mainly, Patrick Kramer (who directed) and Britt Byrd — who have resurfaced in this new Boiler Room Theatre production. BRT veteran director Corbin Green helms Frayn’s kooky tale about a contentious British theater company whose infighting makes it all but impossible for its actors to keep their minds on the play they’re supposed to be performing. If played well — timing is everything — it’s a worthy and very funny script, and Green has assembled an ensemble that should make a serious effort at drawing laughs out of all the slamming doors and on- and offstage confusion. Besides Byrd and Kramer, the players include Matt Baugher, Laura Crockarell, Flynt Foster, Wesley Paine and Dan Zeigler.
