There’s not a whole hell of a lot to Mystery Twins — the guitar/drum duo of Doug Lehmann and Stephanie Brush (best-known around these parts as one-half of The Clutters) — but maybe that’s their best asset. There’s no shortage of two-person bands in town these days, but Lehmann and Brush have a talent for raggedy harmonies that meld together well, thanks to their time in the Clutters trenches. But you’d be wrong to think of the band as just a repository for Clutters castoffs. Mystery Twins has more in common with the daringly lo-fi twee pop of Boyracer and Cars Can Be Blue than the trenchant punk rock of their main gig, and the music is just charming as hell — especially “Arrow,” the song backing a Leonard Cohen cover on their new single. Also celebrating a new single is Grand Strand, featuring Kelley Anderson (formerly Darlin) in a hazy country-rock style that recalls Best Coast, except with fewer cat references.
