Musicians Corner feat. Fisk Jubilee Singers, Sugar and the Hi Lows, Escondido, Afinke, Anderson East, Rayvon Owen & Punchinello

When: Sat., May 5, 3 p.m. 2012

Nashville is fortunate to have a mayor who is supportive of live music and city parks, and Musician’s Corner is a recurring opportunity to enjoy both at once, free of charge. Since the kickoff of its third season coincides with Cinco de Mayo, local salsa band Afinke is on the bill. And while you won’t find any tequila on the premises, there will be a brand-new beer and wine garden peddling local libations, and if you get there early enough, a fleet of food trucks. Also on the schedule is Escondido — not the Latin-leaning outfit the name implies, but a newish arid desert-pop venture from Jessica Maros and Tyler James, who’s been touring with the California psych collective Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Rounding out the afternoon are Sugar and The Hi-Lows — Amy Stroup and Trent Dabbs’ chic update of throwback soul pop—and that most venerable of Nashville a cappella institutions, The Fisk Jubilee Singers. Did we mention the whole thing’s free?
