When: Sat., Sept. 29, 3 p.m. 2012
If you’ve ever been entranced by the evocative sound of the harmonica, you can hear some of the world’s greatest masters of the instrument today in Fairview at the Mid-Pointe Harmonica Festival. On hand will be Wisconsin native P.T. Gazell, who became a legendary Nashville session musician and an exponent of the valved, diatonic harmonica — his feel for jazz and swing is unparalleled. From Macon, Ga., Buddy Greene also went on to Nashville session fame, and has played at Carnegie Hall. The amazing Charlie McCoy — another great Nashville session player, with credits that include working with Bob Dylan — will perform, as will Terry “Harmonica” Bean, Jelly Roll Johnson and Jim Hoke. Rounding out the roster are “Chicago” Charlie Fink, Patrick Weickenand, Roguie Ray LaMontagne and Brandon O. Bailey, and Music City R&B singer Marion James is also set to perform. From blues moan to jazz excursion, these wizards do it all. Best of all, it’s free!
