When: Fri., April 6, 9 p.m. 2012
With the success and growth of Jack White’s Third Man Records and JEFF the Brotherhood’s Infinity Cat — not to mention the recent launch and expansion, respectively, of Brendan Benson’s Readymade (see Thursday’s pick on the Brendan Benson Listening Party) and Kings of Leon’s Serpents and Snakes (see story on p. 39) — Tennessee has become popular stomping grounds for rock star-run record labels. But what about the little guy? Well, Chattanooga’s Memetic Society is looking to join the game, and tonight they’ll showcase several of the Nashville outfits that contributed to their Tennesthesia series of 45s. There’s the hirsute, psychedelic glam rock of Majestico; the pristine, eternally catchy synth pop of Fly Golden Eagle; and the disheveled Southern garage rock of Faux Ferocious. Fellow Nashvillians Justin and the Cosmics — who make a rockabilly- and surf-tinged sort of country punk — will also play. Memetic’s 7-inch singles will officially drop tonight, so snatch some of those up and help a grassroots label grow.
