Local Natives w/Ruby Suns & Union Line

When: Thu., Oct. 14, 8 p.m. 2010

Since our own D. Patrick Rodgers donned L.A.'s Local Natives with a deserving Critic's Pick in April, the "Afrobeat-fetishizing, harmony-rich" indie-rock troupe have only enhanced their stature as one of the most endearing new groups to surface in the last few years. Appearing this time at Cannery Ballroom, the Silverlake quintet are bringing The Ruby Suns in tow, the New Zealand-by-way-of-Cali brainchild of Ryan McPhun that weaves tropicalia, shoegaze and Balearic dance textures into reverb-soaked pop gems. McPhun & Co. are touring behind the critically acclaimed Fight Softly, which recalls the lilting, psychedelic nuances of Animal Collective and the undeniable melodic prowess of Toto. As the cool of autumn rushes in, The Suns'warm, synthesized refrains will go down nicely before Local Natives' equally balmy, percussive-heavy sound sends us off with one last slice of the summer. The Union Lines opens.
