Kickin' It Old-School

Silver Stars Talent Showcase

Anyone who saw Levon Helm at the Ryman a couple of weeks ago knows that just because you're in your 60s doesn't mean you can't rock. At 68, Helm was mesmerizing, so who knows what the gifted senior citizens of HealthSpring's Silver Stars talent competition might have up their collective sleeves? Search "HealthSpring" on YouTube and you can check out the auditions, including the unparalleled spoon-playing of Lucius Talley, the smooth-voiced Charles Garrett laying into "Georgia on My Mind," the enthralling yodeling of Bonnie Bishop, and the sultry Yvonne Garrett (who looks about 45--check her ID) working her magic on "Moonlight in Vermont." The 10 finalists are competing for $5,000, so count on them to bring their A-game. And the show's early enough that you might be able to make it to Shoney's for the early-bird special.
