When: Sun., March 30, 10 p.m. 2014
If there’s a True Detective-shaped hole in your Sunday-night regimen of cosmic dread, look no further than Nations-side dive Betty’s for your fix this week. It’s the first show for Marid, a trio inspired by black metal from Iran — we’re talking boiling sun and oil sands here, folks, it’s hard to get blacker than that — featuring members of Protomen, Call Me Savage, and the late Most Amazing Century of Science. Kubla Khan’s decree notwithstanding, Pleasuredome is Anderson Cook, a circuit-bending noise magician who regularly performs as one half of foreboding duo Hadals. Graphic Tease is Maddy Madeira, setting aside the fuzzy pop of her duo How Cozy for a “wrathful, aurally destructive, feminine” noise experiment on homemade instruments. Capping the evening is Joey Molinaro, who turns old-time fiddle music and rhythmic footwork into the black angel’s siren song. It’s a late show on a school night, but time is a flat circle, anyway, right? C’mon out of the storage unit.
