When: Thu., Oct. 6, 5-8 p.m. 2011
In a recent YouTube video, local artist/composer/curator Tony Youngblood showed us where the musical rubber meets the analog road. By adding a tapehead and a speaker to a toy slot car, the sound-enabled roadster was able to play a loop of magnetic tape that had been fixed to the track. The sounds from the speaker combined with the noise from the car came off like a dentist’s drill conversing with a canary. Success! Youngblood and his collaborators will be bringing an offshoot of their Circuit Bending Ball to Zeitgeist tonight, presenting tweaked toys and gutted gadgets whose blipping, bleeping sounds are made all the more interesting by their hijacked musicality. This is a must-hear event for anyone who was entranced by — or missed — last week’s Soundcrawl.
