Future w/Rico Love & Que

When: Mon., June 16, 8 p.m. 2014

It takes some serious ambition to choose a moniker as vague and quixotic as “Future,” and perhaps even more so to become so successful that you will one day turn up Google results that require minimal modifiers. But Atlanta-based hip-hop artist Future, previously known as Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, did just that in 2011 after releasing a series of critically acclaimed mixtapes. He sealed the deal with his major-label debut Pluto in 2012 —a druggy, Auto-Tune-laden, oddball collection of woozy beats and mid-tempo bangers. On his latest, Honest, Future not only transcends the aforementioned hurdles, but outshines the countless imitators he spawned with his debut, staying the course by spitting his signature dejected robotic warble over psychedelic Dirty South-style hardcore beats.
