First Night Symposium

When: Mon., Sept. 13, 7 p.m. 2010

The resurrection of a Nashville theater tradition from the ’90s comes courtesy of “First Night” founder and executive producer Jeffrey Ellis. Ellis, a noted director as well as the Nashville theater writer for, will serve as moderator for this event, in which eight important players in Nashville’s theater community — Scot Copeland, Paul Gatrell, Kathleen O'Brien, A. Sean and Robert A. O’Connell, Mac Pirkle, Barry Scott and Shannon Wood — discuss the past, present and future of live theater in Music City. The symposium — free of charge and open to the public — is prelude to the 2010 First Night Honors set for Sept. 19 at Belmont University's Troutt Theatre, featuring gala performances and spoken tributes by members of the local theater scene, plus a red-carpet fashion show, a silent auction and a late-night bash at the Hard Rock Cafe.
