Eric Brace and Peter Cooper frequently partner up to sing and play some of the more thoughtful material coming out of Music City these days, but it turns out that both were entranced in their formative years by the cheerful musical hodgepodge that constituted the Seldom Scene’s legendary tenure at Washington, D.C.’s The Birchmere. What they’re aiming for with tonight’s show isn’t so much to re-create those nights as to channel their spirit, and they’ve picked the perfect accompanists in bass man Mark Fain, gifted multi-instrumentalist Justin Moses and musically inquisitive mandolin phenom Sierra Hull. Thomm Jutz, an endlessly adaptable yet distinctive guitarist who’s worked with them all as sideman, engineer, co-writer and/or producer, has come on strong in recent years, and he deserves as much of the spotlight as he’s willing to take. As a special treat, a cappella legend Jerry Lawson of The Persuasions plans to drop by to render a few tunes, too.
