Dining Dispatches: Pizza Buds brings mobile slices to Music City; Fish & Co. opens at former Miro District



Already the Scene is in love with Pizza Buds, the mobile pizza stand run by Jonathan Kingsbury, Kenny Gay and Ben Jones. Taking its cue from the all-nite pizza joints along Austin's Sixth Street that keep South by Southwest fueled every year, Pizza Buds dispenses $3 slices hot and dripping from a couple of hard-working propane ovens.

What sets Pizza Buds apart — other than, hello, it's a truck serving pizza slices in Nashville — are the crust, made by Kenny's mom and dusted with an appealingly sweet mixture of brown sugar, garlic, pepper and Parmesan cheese, and a cheese blend of mozzarella and provolone. You'll want to check it out for yourself during Thursday's Live on the Green concert, starting 6:30 p.m. at Public Square Park, and at Friday's "grand opening" 7 p.m. at 1805 Rosebank Ave. Trust us, it's worth the wait. Fish & Co. Restaurant & Raw Bar, the much-anticipated new seafood restaurant from Chef Louis Osteen and the Hospitality Development Group team behind Watermark and The Blind Pig No. 55, will officially unveil its menu of Charleston- and New Orleans-inspired dishes on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The new restaurant takes over the lavish space formerly occupied by Miro District in the Adelicia condominium complex.

The menu promises a panoply of regional Southeastern delicacies under $30, from Osteen's signature shrimp and grits to Florida grouper (with inland cameos such as Benton's bacon in a stuffed Blue Ridge rainbow trout). Of note also are a bar menu stocked with smaller plates — including beer-steamed shrimp and buttermilk biscuits with Benton's mouth-melting prosciutto — and a raw bar featuring littleneck clams and Gulf oysters, among other entries.
