CSArt Shareholder Pickup Party

When: Sun., Dec. 16, 4-6 p.m. 2012

CSArt has such a brilliant business model that it’s easy to overlook the quality of its product. The brainchild of Nashville-based artist, curator and Seed Space gallery director Adrienne Outlaw, CSArt adapts the model of community-supported agriculture and applies it to art. In other words, you buy a share — whether mini, half, full or super-sized — and get a crate full of paintings, sculptures, prints and other works produced by local artists that have been curated by Outlaw. Neat, right? The novelty of the approach might wear out fairly quickly — like a fruit-of-the-month club filled with nothing but apples and pears — but the selection of work available continues to be superlative. New additions are Scene favorites Benton-C Bainbridge, a video artist who cut his teeth working as the Beastie Boys’ art director, and Emily Clayton, a mixed-media artist who makes work out of tarps, fake flowers, bungee cords and clay pigeons. Other artists include Emily Leonard, Jodi Hays, Derek Cote, Vesna Pavolic, Ryan Hogan, Mike Calway-Fagen and Lesley Patterson-Marx. The party will be hosted by Nashville Arts magazine at specialty furniture store E.T. Burk, and Bainbridge will be projecting selections from his video series Super Long Play on the shop’s wall. $25 to attend or free with purchase of share.
