James Threalkill and Michael McBride are two of the most important voices for contemporary African-American art in Nashville. Threalkill has spent his career making a difference in the lives of young people through art. His paintings continue to bring him acclaim, but his agenda to change his community has brought nationwide attention to his work. Michael McBride’s bright modern canvases are definitely worth gazing at, and his tenure at TSU has brought a series of enriching programs to the university. In short, McBride and Threalkill see art as a way to develop a conversation within their community. Their Critical Thinker’s Art Soiree at Provence provides the perfect setting to see some art, talk about it, and chow down on some cassoulet. We’re in.
