For the 12th year, thousands of people — a projected 30,000 to be exact — will run through the streets of Nashville in pursuit of a record deal, or at the very least, the finish line of the Country Music Marathon. This event takes the music theme seriously: Participants are entertained by dozens of live bands as they run past the honkytonks of Lower Broadway and up Music Row to the end at LP Field, where a free post-race concert for participants will feature Montgomery Gentry and HER & Kings County. For those who aren’t quite hardcore enough to run 26.2 miles, the more popular half-marathon is half the guts and almost all of the glory. Spectators can watch from the sidelines while enjoying live music from the 50 local bands interspersed among the port-a-loos, water stations and friendly folks passing out fruit wedges or beer from their front yards.
