As of November 5, 2008, the city of Chicago is the undisputed world capitol of cool, but do you know who’s the coolest of the Windy City’s ice-cold cats? No, it’s not our cigarette-smokin’, puppy-buying chief executive. No, it’s not Kanye and his temperamental ALL CAPS vocoder insanity. And it’s definitely not This American Life’s Ira Glass—you’re a nerd just for thinking about that. Seriously. Still don’t know who the heppest hipsters in all of Chi-Town are? It’s The Cool Kids. Duh. This duo’s appreciation for the unadulterated perfection of a Roland 808 kick drum is enough to make our Jeep go thump and our hearts go pitter-patter, but Mickey Rocks’ and Chuck Inglish’s irreverent raps about 16-bit video games, riding bikes and being broke mean that we totally want to sit at their table in the cafeteria.
