The House I Live In

Original musicals in Nashville are usually noteworthy enterprises. Not all of Music City’s talented songwriters necessarily end up on the Billboard charts, and some find rewarding outlets via the theater scene. Eclectic musician/composer Kevin Fogarty teams up here with veteran actor/director Rick Seay to present the world premiere of their show about a single house and its history, as experienced by the folks who live in it during four distinct time periods—1831, 1864, 1932 and present day. Seay’s book explores the relationship of the house to its residents, even meditating on what turns wood, bricks, stone and mortar into an actual home. Fogarty’s score features 20 songs, and Seay directs a cast of nine—portraying 27 different characters (including the house!)—with better-known community players on board, including Gregg Colson, Caroline Davis and Keri Pisapia.
