Brian Regan

When: Sun., Jan. 13, 7 p.m. 2013

Brian Regan isn’t an edgy guy — no political commentary, no sex or drugs, no George Carlin linguistics lessons (except maybe that bit about the spelling bee). For 20 years, he’s been the ultimate regular Joe in stand-up comedy, turning a self-deprecating eye on the most mundane situations without so much as a single quip about making whoopee. Detractors may complain that his humor runs dangerously close to “dad jokes” — groaners about “farmers outstanding in their field” and the like — but the joke’s on them: He could make the Yellow Pages laugh-out-loud funny with his finely-tuned delivery. Regan’s stop at the Ryman is part of a national tour supporting his self-released live album, All By Myself, which was recorded during a record-breaking run at Abravenal Hall in Salt Lake City; on his return to the venue, Regan broke his own record, doubling the previous number of sold-out shows. Rest assured, you can take your mom to see this one, and both of you will crack up.
