Brady Haston Behind the City Hans & Gieves Cross-Reference

When: Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Continues through Nov. 27 2010

For this month's Art After Hours event, Zeitgeist Gallery offers up a pair of exhibits that use photography and painting to explore architectural space. With Behind the City, Brady Haston brings his brush to bear on disintegrating urban landscapes. Rather than taking a representational approach, Haston boils these spaces down into essential signs and symbols: graphic elements, graffiti and the artist's always-whimsical color schemes. The result isn't copy-on-canvas as much as it is a Debordian flashcard that spells out the psychology of a space. The dynamic duo of Hans and Gieves also return to the gallery with a new exhibit of their painted photographs. Beginning with images of a friend's library, the artists transform the books and shelves into visual elements in their repetitive, geometric abstractions.
