Book Signing: The Hope Diamond

When: Sun., June 26, 4-6 p.m. 2011

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then the Hope Diamond must be her BFF. The famed jewel — which weighs an astounding 45.62 carats — is of the same renowned ilk as the Great Star of Africa and the Taylor-Burton Diamond. The diamond’s curse — legend holds that it was stolen from the eye of an idol — has plagued many of its owners with misfortune; upon falling into the hands of the French royals, the diamond became a source of blame for the beheadings of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. In his book The Hope Diamond: Evalyn Walsh McLean and the Captivating Mystery of the World’s Most Alluring Jewel, author Joseph Gregory “explores the diamond’s remarkable journey” and the rich heritage of the diamond’s last private owner, Gregory’s great-grandmother and mining heiress Evalyn McLean. Admission for the book signing is $30, a copy of the book is included.
