Mitt Romney's Ride or Die Chick

I have a confession to make. I kind of love Ann Romney.

I know, I know. She's snobby and cold in a way that makes Barbara Bush look like Aunt Bea. She runs around saying things like, "It is time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt’s qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country" — which makes me laugh so hard. She sounds like a school marm. It's impossible for me to imagine that even Mitt Romney supporters want to spend the next four to eight years being scolded by Ann.

And yet, God damn it, she is fiercely loyal to her husband in a way I really admire, and you know, when she said to Mitt's Republican critics, "Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," I smiled. Because, I mean, no other non-lunatics ran for the Republican party nomination this time. Mitt was literally the only candidate who seemed not to come from some parody of the Republican party. There are plenty of other Republicans with presidential aspirations who might be acceptable to America who are sitting this one out and yet still badmouthing Mitt.

Indeed, if they think they could have done better, they should have put some skin in the game. Otherwise, I'm with Ann. They need to shut the fuck up. (I think "Stop it" is Mormon for "Shut the fuck up.")

So I was delighted to see that Saturday Night Live, rather than turning their depiction of Ann into some harpy shrew from hell, depicted her as I see her — as the only Republican willing to call other Republicans on their bullshit.
