Paul Ryan's Woman Problem

Paul Ryan has been the Republican vice-presidential candidate since Saturday and he's already been heckled by women, had a plane fly overhead mocking his efforts to control women's bodies, and been made an inexplicable Internet meme based on another inexplicable Internet meme.

And women were just getting started. Now the women's advocacy group UltraViolet presents "Five Things to Know about Paul Ryan" that range from his vote against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to his anti-in-vitro-fertilization stance.

In a way, this is reminiscent of the Susan G. Komen controversy, which is still rocking the organization. Women find out about some crap we don't like. We get angry, we make fun of you on social media, and then we take our money elsewhere. And this is a live wire Ryan's holding. Even people who aren't comfortable with abortion expect to have birth control available to them. They certainly expect to be able to have a baby if they want one and they don't expect the government to tell them they can't.

That's something out of some kind of communist dystopia — not allowing people to have children when they want to. And it's something that's bound to make people of all political stripes very nervous.
