We Were Here: The AIDS Years in San Francisco
Where: The Belcourt
When: Oct. 14-16
Filmmakers David Weissman and Bill Weber (THE COCKETTES) take a deep and reflexive look at San Francisco in the early '80s as its flourishing gay community is hit with the arrival and impact of AIDS, exploring how the city’s inhabitants were affected by, and how they responded to, that calamitous epidemic. Rising beyond San Francisco and beyond AIDS itself, It speaks to our capacity as individuals to rise to the occasion, and to the incredible power of a community coming together with love, compassion, and determination.
Following the 2:30 p.m. screening on Sunday, 10/16, Michael Brown, associate director, Vanderbilt Office of LGBTQI Life, moderates a discussion with Quoc Lam, HIV education coordinator for Nashville Cares, and Vic Sorrell, community educator with Vanderbilt University's HIV Vaccine Program.
