Bocephus No Longer Ready for Some Football

If you watched Monday Night Football last night, you might have noticed a conspicuous absence. You see, Monday morning, Hank Jr. stuck his foot in his mouth so far that ESPN could taste his shoe leather — and so his "Are you ready for some football?" version of "All My Rowdy Friends are Coming Over Tonight" is off the game.

ESPN's statement reads in part:

While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast.

But as noted pundit Roger Abramson said on Twitter:

I've often wondered how long it take HW Jr. to screw himself out of his MNF gig. He actually lasted a lot longer than I thought he would.

And frankly, it is amazing Junior was able to refrain from controversy for 20 years.

But here's the other thing. We have millions of years of human history (or 6,000 if you're a Bible literalist). Do people not know of any other evil-doer to compare Obama to? I mean, this not only makes us look bad on the level of making people think, "Oh, Tennessee. That's where that rude asshole is from." It also makes us look bad because it highlights our piss poor educational system. Hitler was not the only evil person, conservatives! Spice it up. Compare Obama to the Borgs Borgias or to Ethelred the Unready (who was not evil, but had some obvious problems with his leadership) or to Ahab or someone, anyone other than Hitler. Please, make it seem like we have more than just a rudimentary grasp on history here in Tennessee.

Show some range, people. Show some range!
