The Definitive Flood Post

Ryan Bennett left town as the rains started to fall, headed away from Nashville and towards a new life. When the call went out for volunteers in the wake of the disaster, Bennett put his plans on hold, came back to Nashville, and threw himself into the relief effort. At the end of the week, he wrote this post.

In part, it goes:

The Volunteer State has once again shown itself worthy of that nickname. The effort people have put in is extraordinary and should be celebrated and praised, but we can praise our city for its spirit and efforts without putting down others who were in a completely different situation and we can do it without making implications about class and race. We Are Nashville and we have a unique city and unique spirit and we have stepped up tremendously to help each other out, but we are not perfect or more worthy of help than anyone else.

So you should read the whole thing.
