Resignation Reax: State GOP Says 'Hopefully Something Has Been Learned,' and Campfield Announces Kelsey's Senate Candidacy

From Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey:
Senator Paul Stanley has resigned from the State Senate effective August 10th. I have received his letter of resignation and forwarded it to Secretary of State Hargett and Governor Bredesen.
Stanley's resignation letter:
Dear Governor Ramsey: It has been an honor to serve with you in the State Senate in the 105th and 106th General Assemblies. Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10, 2009. Thank you for your service as our Speaker of the Senate and Lieutenant Governor. Respectfully yours, Paul Stanley Senate District 31
Update: State Republican Party statement. "This was an unfortunate situation for all involved and hopefully something has been learned from this. Considering the circumstances, Paul determined the right thing for his family and his constituents was to resign and we support him in that decision." Update II: Campfield takes it upon himself to announce Kelsey's Senate candidacy. "All the rumors are true. Good friend and solid conservative Rep. Brian Kelsey is running for the senate. He just sent me a text." Update III: Kleinheider reminds us that Briley attacked bloggers too. See the video.
