As promised, today we present the second and final video from the first installment in our brand-new "Live in the Morgue" performance series, shot here in the archives (or "morgue") at Scene headquarters. Yesterday we shared with you Those Darlins' performance of "That Man," a number from last year's Blur the Line, complete with some mellifluous backing vocals from fellow locals Caitlin Rose, Tristen and Adia Victoria. Today we bring you "Why Can't I" (not to be confused with Liz Phair's "Why Can't I?"), a single recorded during the Darlins' Blur the Line sessions. Look above (or via the Scene's YouTube channel) to see frontwoman Jessi "Zazu" Wariner leading her band through a stirring rendition of the slow-burning ballad of heartache. The video was directed by Anthony Simpkins of GemsOnVHS, with camera operation by John Taylor, lighting and grip work by Carson Gilliland and audio by Mike Colman.
Those Darlins debuted "Why Can't I" yesterday via The A.V. Club, and you can stream the studio version below or via Soundcloud. Dig in, and stay tuned for future installments of "Live in the Morgue."
