Y'all know Sosa, right? Government name Sam Shacklock, younger brother of DJ Kidsmeal, and one-half of the dub-hop duo Sam and Tre? I knew you knew him. Well, he's playing with Zeds Dead at Anthem tonight, and in order to get hype you better go download his new track "Sound the Alarm." You need to like the Facebook page to get the download, but ol' Sosa knows that's a bullshit tactic without the proper bait, so he's hooked up a li'l teaser trailer to convince you to click that button. And what a teaser! There's Satan riding a skateboard, spray-can stencils and a bunch of beardos smoking cigarettes. Good stuff! The track itself is a big, hard-as-hell room-banger with enough tempo dexterity to blow just about anybody's wigdome.
And in case you need a little more enticement to rage on a work night, here's a little thang that ran in this week's dead-tree edish:
On Verve Remixed: The First Ladies, Zeds Dead remixes Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” (a song later made famous by The Animals). It’s all hyper-speed drum breaks and organ-rumbling bass, and it’s gunning straight for the top of our “Jam of the Summer” list. We rarely endorse anybody who fucks with Nina, but Zeds Dead isn’t just anybody. It’s one of electronic music’s most exciting outfits, a crew that dispenses with rigid genre constrictions in favor of adventurous melodies and song craft. Zeds Dead is joined by hometown bass-music heroes Sosa and Noise Floor.
Doors are at 9:30, it's an 18-and-up event, and tickets are $30. You can get yours here.
