Remember when Jack White elected actor Gary Oldman to direct an expressly American webcast/concert film
last year? Now Kings of Leon are the latest local rock stars to participate in the Internet’s American Express Unstaged live-stream series, which pairs the world’s biggest rock bands with noteworthy directors of their choosing. Previous installments have eHarmonied Arcade Fire with Terry Gilliam, Duran Duran with David Lynch, The Killers with Werner Herzog, Vampire Weekend with Steve Buscemi and My Morning Jacket with Todd Haynes, to name a few.
KOL have tapped punk-drummer-turned-famed-funnyman Fred Armisen to helm its upcoming Unstaged episode. The Portlandia/former SNL star will call the shots on the band’s Aug. 9 gig at the cozy Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, the Followills’ home away from home.
Look for it live on VEVO; tune in to inevitably hear old KOL hits like “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody,” along with the recent single “Supersoaker” and other fresh tracks from the band’s forthcoming sixth full-length Mechanical Bull, which drops Sept. 24.
