Animal Collective Cancels Marathon Music Works Show Due to Illness — Again [Updated]

Fans of experimental indie darlings Animal Collective will of course recall that the band canceled their March 13 appearance at Nashville's Marathon Music Works due to illness, subsequently rescheduling the performance for July 19. Well, turns out history does indeed repeat itself: A.C. has canceled their make-up date, once again citing illness. Straight from their Facebook page:

Hey AC fans,

Due to illness, we will unfortunately not be able to perform our upcoming July tour dates, including the Camp Bisco and Forecastle festivals. We deeply apologize and tried our best to make it work with an alternate set, but ultimately we didn't feel like we were giving fans what they deserved from an Animal Collective show. We are working on rescheduling the non-festival dates as soon as possible. Again we send our sincerest apologies to fans anticipating these shows, especially considering the cancellations earlier this year.

Avey Tare, Deakin, Geoligist, and Panda Bear

The March cancellations were reportedly due to frontman David "Avey Tare" Portner's ongoing and severe case of strep throat, and attendees at recent Animal Collective performances — like this one Tuesday night in Ontario — have noted that Tare did little or no singing whatsoever. Bummerino.

We'll update this post when any further details or another make-up date become available. If you feel like getting nostalgic, look back at Creamster Adam Gold's excellent interview with A.C. member Geologist — which initially ran in March — here.

Update: Openers Chairlift will still perform July 19 at Marathon Music Works, and the show is now free. See a press release after the jump.
