Randy Travis in Critical Condition Due to Viral Cardiomyopathy

Bummer news comes our way this afternoon. According to a press release just received by the Scene, noted country singer Randy Travis — who we recently saw poignantly memorializing George Jones, and later being pretty much the only old-school country dude at the CMA Music Fest — has just been admitted to a Texas hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. From the release:

Dallas, Tx. (July 8, 2013) — Country singer Randy Travis has been admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition. The Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy. Travis was admitted into the medical facility yesterday.

Wikipedia tells us that cardiomyopathy is defined as "the measurable deterioration of the function of the [heart muscle] for any reason, usually leading to heart failure." Scary stuff. We wish Travis a speedy recovery.
