Known for its breathtakingly elaborate, cutting-edge stage productions, the band — which now features former King Crimson/David Bowie guitarist and Middle Tennessee resident Adrian Belew on guitar* — will release its ninth full-length, Hesitation Marks, on Sept. 3. The album’s lead-off single, “Came Back Haunted,” dropped today on iTunes. Check it out after the jump. It’s dark, warped and synth-poppy as fuck — a word Reznor has always overused well.

Friday, June 14 Friday, June 21 right here. (That might be a problem for local Nailheads who will be at Bonnaroo). Canadian experimental post-rock dynasty Godspeed You! Black Emperor will open, and I bet you’re as curious as I am to see how that will go over in an arena setting. March on, pigs!
* Update: Since this post was published, Adrian Belew left NIN.
