Perhaps no local rock outfit sounds, looks and behaves more like their moniker than blown-out, metal-imbued, Thin Lizzin', ZZ Toppin' Southern sludge purveyors Thelma and the Sleaze. The all-grrrl trio released their EP Pillage back in November, and you can listen to the whole thing below, or download it for $7 at Thelma and the Sleaze's Bandcamp page.
Well, the young ladies have a brand-new video for the Pillage tune "Too Tough." Directed by Cream/Scene contributor Seth Graves, the vid features cameos from Birdcloud's Makenzie Green and Ri¢hie's Richie Kirkpatrick — the former portrays a contestant in a brutal and appropriately sleazy hot-dog-utilizing wrestling match, and the latter serves as referee. (Makes me wonder if Kirkpatrick is a method actor, seeing as how he's been wearing the ref garb for a few years now. Perhaps he was just preparing for this role all along?) Thelma and the Sleaze will perform this Friday, March 29, at The Stone Fox with Cheap Time and Fast Girls, and shortly after that they'll depart on a tour with Stiff Licks. They'll make it back home in time to provide local support for Detroit's garage-rock tributary outfit The Detroit Cobras on April 18.
